Teaching
"Thank you for helping me improve! I am extremely happy I have had this opportunity to learn more about the clarinet and music in general. I love that you have time to do this and are passionate about teaching music. You helped me gain some confidence with my music to the point that I played in the recital! I'm very grateful you can do this for me and your other students. So again thank you." - Bella
“Thanks for your help. Andy is actually playing his clarinet and piano again!
It is very helpful that you send me a detailed lesson sheet and all other instructions after each lesson.
Everything is clear and well guided.” - Mother of Andy

Private lessons consist of the following:
-
Weekly musical and technical development
-
Students perform selections from Essential Elements/an etude once a week to build their musical understanding. They are often shorter than a typical solo piece and allow the student to progress more efficiently through different musical styles.
-
Students also work extensively out of the rhythm books by Robert Starer and are assigned one exercise a week. The students are required to perform each assigned exercise three separate ways:
-
1 - Clapping the rhythms (keeping in mind the rests and notes)
-
2 - Playing the exercise with their own melody (helps develop creativity while synthesizing the technical and musical)
-
-
Technical exercises (scales, thirds, arpeggios) - Assigned once a week from Rubank, Klose, and Baermann.
-
-
Solo Literature
-
Assigned 1-2 per year for further study
-
-
Sight-reading
-
Each lesson ends with a 10-minute sight-reading session where the student reads through duets with the teacher and a metronome. This pushes the student to work on practicing sight reading skills on a more regular basis and for the student to keep on going despite making a mistake.
